Sustainability Worldwide
Participaid
Participaid is a project of the FairGround Foundation and Vital Interest, sponsored in 2008 by Xplore. Participaid aims to stimulate co-operation between able-bodied people and those with disabilities not only at home but worldwide, to create equal opportunities for all. Participaid encourages this in particular through the “buddy” concept: a person with impaired hearing is allocated to a person with no hearing difficulties. Together they form a team during the period of preparation, during the trip itself and indeed during subsequent times. When deaf and hearing people work together the limitations of those without an apparent handicap become visible. This creates a co-working process to deal with those challenges, physically as well as mentally. For more information, please click here (in Dutch), or e-mail info@fairgroundsessions.nl.
Friends of ITEI
ITEI is a Bolivian organisation offering free psychotherapy and medical help to people who suffer from the psychological and/or physical effects of torture. The foundation “Friends of ITEI” was founded in November 2007 by Peter Habraken, a social worker for ITEI. Peter now works on a training course showing Bolivian social workers how to offer individual social help for tortured people. In this way his knowledge becomes sustainable, transferred to the Bolivian people to help their own. For more information or to make a donation, go to the Friends of ITEI website.
